BOSTON and SCITUATE, MA, SEPTEMBER 12, 2019…Doreen A. Lang, Scituate author and speaker with over 25 of years of training and development experience in both consulting and corporate roles, today announced the publication of her third book, Putting Differences to Work, scheduled for release this week on Amazon. Her company, https://hangontoyourstars.com, is a business strategy practice which provides consultation for onboarding and retaining talent, and skills training workshops. This is her third book in the Hang On To Your Stars series, which addresses the issues within multi generational companies.
She notes, “For the first time in history there are five generations working under the same roof. Never before have we had such an age-diverse workforce, and for many organizations it’s creating a difficult and challenging workplace.”
In preparation for this book, Lang interviewed 25 working people from all five of the generations in companies today. She posed questions including ‘What about your job gets you up in the morning?’, ‘What about your current work motivates you?’ and ‘Can you describe or tell me a story about the best boss you ever had?’
“The responses I received were honest and forthcoming,” she said, noting that this research helped frame the ways to share with readers just how to create an inclusive culture of productive and engaged employees.
As someone who specializes in advising companies on retention strategies, she observed, “When it comes to embracing diversity in the workforce, the focus has typically been on race, ethnicity, and gender. But, we have neglected to address age. Age is a significant factor as it relates to communication, skills, abilities, and the gap in technology expertise. Learning about and applying all these differences to foster a culture of inclusion allows a diversity of views and talents to be utilized and valued- resulting in a highly engaged and fruitful workforce.”
Lang’s book is different from the many which have been written about the importance of on boarding employees, motivating them and even how to be a great boss. This book, however, is different in that it interviews employees. “If you really want to know what your employees are thinking, ask them.”
Putting Differences to Work: Secrets from a Multi-Generational Workforce, (Vol.2) explores beyond Lang’s first two books, and tells employers how to keep employees beyond the first 90 days.
